Lumen Christi Parents & Friends

Family-School Partnerships – providing a context

Parents are the first educators of their children. They are the most constant influence on their child’s learning and development both during and beyond formal schooling. The school has responsibility to support parents in the task of nurturing future generations, in line with the mandated educational curriculum. Decades of research, at home and overseas, clearly demonstrate that the most effective schools have high levels of parental and community involvement. Fostering productive, sustainable partnerships with our families is therefore crucial for the education of individual students as well as the success of the College.

Lumen PnF in 2011

A key function of the Lumen PnF is to encouraging more parents to engage in the ongoing life of the school.  The purpose of this is to assist the School Community in becoming more effective in the process of educating our students and equipping them with skills to assist them throughout life.  Each Lumen parent and guardian is urged to consider how best to offer their time and talents to assist in this task. This may be on an occasional or an ongoing basis.

In 2011 key areas of focus will be:

  • Increasing the profile of the PnF amongst the Lumen Community, especially through a regular PnF page, as an extension of the College Newsletter
  • Providing more opportunities for the engagement of parents; in particular, those of year 7 & 8 students
  • Improving the effectiveness, and activities of the Lumen PNF
  • Encouraging parents to take an active interest in teaching and learning through participation in forums with the Principal
  • Working with College staff to promote opportunities for parents and children to engage in learning journey together
  • Further enhancing links with Partner Parishes
